Learning with Joy

In the classroom, in the Studio, and One on One

Imaginative, inspiring, and encouraging

Joy creates a student-proclaimed safe space for all her students and builds a strong sense of community among all different age groups. Holding a Masters Degree of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from one of only two programs of it’s kind in the country, Joy brings a true understanding of her craft and its history to her students. And as a working professional performer, choreographer, and casting director on both coasts, she also has a first hand account of the industry’s current trends. Her positive energy and creativity are contagious, leading her students to fall even deeper in love with the art form she adores so much. Joy’s knowledge and passion for the history of the theatre, as well as having her finger on the pulse of the industry make her the perfect educator for those wanting to take their performance to the next level.

Joy currently teaches at the following collegiate institutions:

  • Joy teaches in the Musical Theatre Department at her grad school alma mater, teaching Musical Theatre performance for Non-Majors

  • Joy teaches as a member of the Berklee Theatre Arts Collaborative at BCM. Classes taught include: Musical Theatre Dance Workshop, Dance Styles for Singers, Musical Theatre New Works Ensemble, as well as several Boston Conservatory leveled dance classes in Jazz and Tap.

  • As faculty in Emerson College’s Dance department, Joy teaches Musical Theatre Dance Repertoire to the graduating Musical Theatre BFA seniors, as well as Introduction to Musical Theatre Dance for majors and non-majors alike.

  • Joy teaches multiple sections of Introduction to Theatre for Non-Majors at Boston College.

Joy in the Classroom

From Kindergarten to college, Joy teaches theatre to every age group under the sun. Holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts and Acting, and a Master’s Degree in Musical Theatre, she is passionate about inspiring a new level of theatre “nerdage” in students of all ages.

Joy in the Studio

Motivation is the name of the game when you’re in the studio with Joy. Every movement is motivated by acting, and every student is motivated by Joy. Students don’t solely learn technique, but learn how to emotionally imbue the smallest of steps with humanity.
